Sunshine Makes You Happy March 13. 2008
The Sidewalk Story I promised you is rather lengthy and I am way past the deadline so I think I will just tell you about my day.Â
I was up at 8:30 AM to get ready for an appointment to have my Pacemaker checked at the Hospital. We got there early and had to wait about 20 minutes.Â
There was a young man to do the test today but they did not have the right program for the computer so I have to get up at 7:30 AM tomorrow morning (you all know how I hate getting up early in the morning) be at the Hospital at 9 AM.Â
I have had this Pacemaker since 2000 and the battery is about to give out. Of course, that means they will have to replace the battery.
One of the Volunteers in the Lobby commented about the weather today. It was a beautiful day. So beautiful that I did not have to wear the Pink Jacket.  I could not help but speak up when she said she hoped this did not mean the summer was going to be as hot as it was last summer. I told her I have been here a year and 4 months and have not felt heat yet. Â
We decided the difference was because she is from Penna. and I am from Florida. Â
I must tell you though when I opened the door after returning this afternoon it was so warm it reminded me of back in St. Pete when I would go for the morning paper and burn my hands on the metal door.
So today was not a complete loss because I made a new friend at the Hospital and just enjoyed being out in the sunshine with my Daughter. Â
I would love to hear about your day.

What Time Is It? March 12. 2008
How long does it take a normal person to get used to DST? OK so it will take me longer than that. We finally got all the clocks set but did not bother with the Wrist Watches that are on my Dresser. Figured I would set them as I wore them. Â
I was awakened this morning (I think it was morning) when the machine by my bed made a strange noise. I know I don't have an Alarm Clock so half asleep I got up and turned it off.Â
Next thing I know Joann is peeking around the door of my bedroom asking if I am awake. She is there to tell me the power is off. We don't know why the power is off. Maybe the Power Company thinks we need the exercise setting the clocks again. Or maybe they too hate the change and are taking their frustrations out on us.
Joann does not know what time it is either but asks if I want to sleep longer and my answer was "yes"!  So sleep I did until when I did not know until I got up and got my Swiss Army Watch that Becky gave me years ago and found out it was 1:45 PM. Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
Well, coming out into the kitchen I realized I had missed breakfast and lunch and the Soap I watch every day so should I just wait until time for dinner or rearrange the day and have a bowl of cereal. That is what I did.Â
I saw that it was 60 degrees so I opened the door to beautiful sunshine. There were several Squirrels jumping from tree to tree in the back yard. They seemed to be practicing for a Tarzan movie. It was like they were putting on a show for Basically Betty who finally decided to get up.Â
Hope the sun is shining if not outside, in your heart.

Did Not Mean to Bug You March 11. 2008
Joann asked me the other day if I missed the Palmetto Bugs we had in Florida. My reply was "no".  We have all kind of bugs up here but no Palmetto Bugs.  I would guess it is too cold for them.Â
I remember one time my Dad had invited all his friends that he had met at Al Lang Field during Spring Training Games for dinner.  My Husband Fred made a pot of pasta sauce and we had a delicious spaghetti dinner. My Dad did not like pasta {can you believe someone does not like pasta}? Anyway, he had a frozen dinner.Â
Well, everyone was around the table and I had forgotten to put napkins out.  I opened the cabinet above the wall oven and there were five Palmetto Bugs running around on the inside of the door.  I hurried up closed the door and looked around to see 6 pair of eyes staring at the cabinet.  Everyone there knew about these pests so we just sat down and ate our dinner. The next day I called the Pest Control folks and out they came and got rid of those five and who knows how many more.  They came by once a month and the bugs had to find another place to invade.
While I am going down memory lane I think tomorrow I will tell you about the sidewalks in front of our home on the Southside.

Seasons March 10. 2008
A very dear friend who spends her summers up here in North Carolina told me when she heard that we were moving here that I would surely enjoy the seasons.
Well, Barbara I can tell you after experiencing all four seasons I have my own version of the changing seasons.
Â
It involves the Pink Jacket.
Winter - Pink Jacket, lining, and hood
Spring - Pink Jacket, lining, no hood
Summer - Pink Jacket, no lining, and no hood
Fall -Â Pink Jacket, lining, and hood
Â
It's amazing how the natives wear just sweat shirts or sweaters on the coldest of days in the winter.  How many years do you think I have to be here before I can trade my Pink Jacket in for a sweater?

What Time is it Anyway? March 9. 2008
I don't know about you but it will take me about a week to get used to this time change.  We have one more clock to set. It's a Golden Hour Clock and it's been in the family for at least 50 years.  The hands are very thin metal and if not careful could be broken in setting.  Then there are three watches to be changed. I will do that as I wear them.Â
The one good thing about DST it is still daylight at 6 PM here. It's usually dark at 5 PM.Â
Had a call from my friend Terry. She moved to Texas before I moved up here.  We are the same age so understand each other and our aches and pains. We don't dwell on them though because we have so much more interesting things to talk about.  She is a lot more active than I am.  Wish I could be as active.  Everyone should have a friend like Terry.  She truly is a blessing.
If I am late with posting to the Blog blame it on DST.Â

Spring is just around the Corner, haha March 8. 2008
I was awakened at noon today when the sun was flashing it's rays in my window.   Good thing I slept in because early in the morning it snowed and bits of ice called sleet were the wake up call for early risers.
Well, I turned the furnace up a notch and donned my flannel gown and heavy chenille and that was the dress of the day.Â
I am becoming a creature of habit as far as eating is concerned having a bowl of cereal for breakfast (which is always around noon) and then for lunch Baby Swiss cheese and crackers and a few Toasted Ritz Chips (that can be 4 or 5 o'clock) and then every Saturday evening I have an omelet whenever I get hungry.
Doubt we will make it to Church tomorrow because I have a runny nose and sneezing fits.  There's a lot of Flu going around and I sure don't want that. I do miss going though.
Had a phone call from younger Daughter Becky. She was on her way home from the Studio after a hard days work. Said she plans to rest up tomorrow. Also, said she will come for a visit in July.  Wish it could be sooner.Â
Oh yes, and I called John M. in St. Petersburg when I heard the Rays beat the Yanks 4-1 today.   Barbara and John are my friends from New York and I think I told you he has promised to root for the Rays except when they play the Yankees and I will root for the Yankees except when they play the Rays.
That's it for today.  Stop in tomorrow.

Thank you Mr. Bell March 7. 2008
Had a phone call from my dear friend Barbara. I have told you about her before. She is from New York, the Bronx to be exact. She is so genuine and honest, don't ask her how you look in that new outfit unless you want the truth.Â
Â
We belonged to the same Church. Actually met there. This was in Florida and one day it was raining as only it can in Florida. We were at Church for a meeting and Barbara came in out of the rain with a Poncho on. She hugged me as only she can. I had a silk blouse on so you can imagine how wet it was after that greeting. Glad I had a jacket to put over it to attend the meeting.
Â
It was so good to hear from her. We talked forever. She told me about things at Church.  This call made not being able to get out due to the weather (rain and more rain) bearable.Â
Â
Hope you all had a phone call or a visit that made your day.

The Weather Report for 3/6/08 March 6. 2008
What a great day this has been.  Slept in till 11:20 AM. Opened the drape and saw the temp. was 60 degrees and still rising.
Had several e-mails. Talked with Adith for quite a while. She always has news from Church.  We have decided we will talk more often because we miss our daily phone calls.  We used to visit each other for lunch, she one month her house and the next month my house. We really enjoyed this and Frank was still with us then.Â
It really warmed up nicely so both doors were opened and I did step out on the Patio for a bit of sunshine.  The Pansies are blooming and some greenery is coming up through the soil.  I have no idea what it is. It looks so fresh and happy it just makes this City girl stare in amazement. Just asked Bill and he said they are Daffodils.Â
The weather report is that we will have snow tonight. Now I know variety is the spice of life but that seems a bit ridiculous to me. Beautiful warm sunshine and then when the sun goes down we have snow.Â
Oh well, come Sunday when Daylight Savings Time gets here we will have more sun time and that will be welcome.
Saw it was cold in Seattle today also. Hope Rebecca was able to keep warm.

This was a Take It Easy Day?? March 5. 2008
I was up at the crack of dawn this morning. Remember I had an appointment with the Dentist.  My appointment was at 9:30 but I never sleep well the night before I am to have Dental work done. Don't know why that is because Fillings are done so quickly I don't feel any pain. I don't like the Novocain though.Â
Bill was off today so he drove us in town. When we got to the bottom of the mountain the Cow Pasture was under water. It looked like a lake. That was the result of that storm yesterday.
The River runs along the road into town and it was over the bank most of the way. The road had been closed and they just opened it before we got there. They were just taking down the Road Closed signs.Â
It was 30 degrees so you know what I wore - the Pink Jacket Hood up. We get to the Dentist's Office and folks coming and going with just sweaters on.  Yes they look at me like I am from Florida.Â
The Dentist filled two teeth and sent me on my way. Bill had gone on to do some grocery shopping and was not back yet so Joann and I walked (my exercise for the day) around the Parking Lot. While we were walking and waiting for Bill I told Joann about the Mystery Woman that used to go down to the Pier in St. Pete every day at the same time. That's another story that I will save for some other day.
Bill had stopped at the P.O. for the mail and there was a package for me. His Mom had sent me a Rays Banner for my Rays Collection.  It's the new colors and looks great up on the wall in the Trophy Room.Â
Hey that Cardinal (bird not Ball Player} was back on the Bird Feeder today at 5:00 PM. just like the other day. Dinner time.

My Day March 4. 2008
I have a good excuse for sleeping in this morning. The sun
was not shining in the window as usual to wake me.  What I saw when I opened the drapes was the window was dripping rain drops.  I heard hail hitting the windows and it was then I was grateful for the storm windows.Â
There were bulletins all day on the TV about Tornados in the area that is until the TV went out. Could not get on line but we never lost power. Figure that one out.Â
Bill did make it to the Post Office but Joann and I stayed put.
Hopefully the bad weather is gone because tomorrow I do have to go out. I have a Dental appointment. I have to be there at 9:30. If the sun shines bright it will wake me early enough and I will be on time. Not to worry sunshine or no Joann will make sure I am up and ready to go.
There was a phone call from my dear friend Jean H. which is always a joy. She told me they were expecting thunder storms in Florida. I noticed the weather map showed the storm we were having was affecting Jacksonville, Fl.
That's my day - exciting huh?

Not a typical Monday March 3. 2008
It was a beautiful day today. Saw on the news there are flowers blooming in town.   We have Pansies blooming in our Flower Box on the patio out back. They are winter plants.Â
I am not going to get too excited because also on the news they said rain and colder on the way.
Â
My one Classmate that I hear from sent me an e-mail about the Orange Festival in Menton - a town in Italy on the border between Italy and France. I sent it on to Rebecca and hope she can visit there when she is in Italy.Â
Â
Joann is still beading. Bill is still working. I am still doing nothing.Â
Â
One interesting note - Joann tells me Bill took the dog out this evening and there were five Deer laying by the Pond in the back yard.  Sorry I missed that.Â
Â
Well, that's it for today.  If something interesting happens tomorrow you will be the first to know about it.Â

What a Beautiful Day Today Has Been March 2. 2008
I was to get a wake up call at 9 AM this morning but the Lord had another plan for me. He sent the sun shining into the DR windows so that the whole apartment was full of sunshine at 8 AM.  Usually, I hate to get up that early but today I was up and at 'em and ready for Church half an hour early.  When I checked the Thermometer it was 50 degrees. I was able to wear a black suit with a red velvet wrap instead of bundling up. It was 60 degrees when we got home.Â
Â
The week seems to go better when we go to Church on Sunday. Joann and I listened to Joel O. yesterday evening. I got bits and pieces of today's sermon by Dr. Silman but what really got my attention was the Prelude.  The Pianist plays beautifully and today she played "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". All of my friends from LSPC that read this will know why this brought a tear to my eye. For others - a gentleman that sang in the Choir at my Church in Florida would sing this hymn when it was his turn to sing a solo and it was always by special request.  He is no longer with us but "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" will always be Daryl's song. Â
So, going to Church I feel well fortified to face the week and a Dental Appointment on Wednesday. Hope you all got to Church too.
